Mara Carfagna, Minister for Southern Italy and Territorial Cohesion, attended today’s informal video meeting of EU Ministers responsible for Cohesion Policy organised by Nelson de Souza, representative of the Portuguese Presidency of the European Council, and also attended by Elisa Ferreira, EU Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms.
The meeting took stock of cohesion synergies between the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) and 2021-2027 Structural Funds to coordinate the two instruments and maximise their economic and social effectiveness.
"The complementarity between the RRF and Structural Funds is an excellent opportunity to resume capital expenditure growth and, at the same time, implement essential reforms in our Country, accelerating the absorption of resources, increasing productivity, raising the employment rate and reducing current territorial, generational and gender gaps" Minister Carfagna declared.
She furthermore underlined the dual "change of pace" attained by the EU through the RRF and by Italy through its "ambitious yet realistic National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), adequate to cope with current challenges and EU requests".
"Then, what is missing at this stage? Firstly, Next Generation EU resources should be made available as quickly as possible; and the timing of reforms should be aligned with the first advance payment. Secondly, Next Generation EU should be converted into a permanent instrument for economic stabilisation" Minister Carfagna concluded.
