"After today's interaction with Commissioner Schmit, I am even more confident we will promptly reach an agreement that will enable Italy to swiftly and best use the 2021-2027 European Structural Funds", Mara Carfagna, Minister for Southern Italy and Territorial Cohesion, stated it upon conclusion of her videoconference meeting with the EU Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights.
"Commissioner Schmit confirmed his appreciation for our work, which is primarily aimed at social and territorial cohesion, young people, and better use of EU resources thanks to improved local administrations", Minister Carfagna explained.
"Commissioner Schmit furthermore ensured Brussels technicians' willingness and cooperation spirit to liaise with our offices to clarify the last few details and reach a final agreement on the text of our Partnership Agreement. This important signal confirms the European Commission's trust in our Government's work and paves the way for the over-EUR-83-billion resources (EU funds and national co-financing) that are going to be disbursed in the next few years, mostly to Southern Italy's regions, and will extend and strengthen the National Reform Programme actions," Minister Carfagna said.
"The interaction between Italy and the EU has changed, and this is further proof", Minister Carfagna concluded. "Italian citizens can now look more confidently to a European Union that demonstrates its will to carry on the effort initiated during the COVID-19 pandemic to protect the population in terms of health and socio-economic aspects. And this is also possible thanks to the prestige and authority acknowledged by our international partners to Italy's Government led by President Draghi".
